Magic and magical creatures. Immortal gods and goddesses. History and mythology. Strap in for this action-packed YA novel that takes place over the days leading up to World War II, when Ziva must rely on her wit and magic to outmaneuver Nazis and ancient Egyptian gods to prevent global destruction.

Ziva has one memory of her parents, made the day they abandoned her on the streets of New York City when she was three years old. They left her with only a memory and a promise that she had a great and terrible destiny.

Fifteen years later, Ziva discovers that destiny includes powers that she doesn’t understand and can barely control. Her magic attracts vicious, otherworldly monsters, and eventually compatriots to help her fight them. Sayer and Nasira know the secrets Ziva doesn’t; that Ziva is descended from Egyptian royalty and in possession of ancient magic passed down from the time of the gods. They promise to teach Ziva to control her magic and to give her the family she’s always yearned for.

But trouble is brewing in the world around them; darkness is descending on Hitler’s Germany, threatening World War II. As the last heir of a revered Egyptian queen, Ziva is the only one with the power to prevent another costly global conflict. As Ziva navigates her newfound abilities and makes a connection with Anubis and other Egyptian gods, the Nazis are hunting for the ultimate weapon, and Ziva has caught their interest.

Wardens of Eternity by Courtney Moulton is a unique and fun YA fantasy tale with an interesting mythological twist and I enjoyed reading it until the end.

I found the storyline of this novel intriguing and there are so many fascinating parts that I really loved. The Egyptian mythology and the WWII aspects are both quite interesting and while I’m not a huge fan of history, I surprisingly enjoyed this part.  I was also enamored with the world-building, all the details about the magical system and Egyptian gods, and the power Ziva possessed and how it all works. I think Moulton’s writing is easy to read and I had no major issues with it other than some conversations felt a bit awkward at times. While some parts were a bit slow and a little confusing at times for me, it didn’t really take away from the overall feel of the story. I think the plot is well-paced with a good mix of action, magic, friendship, betrayal, love, and twists and turns that had me captivated. While the romance didn’t really do it for me, I did feel a few swoons here and there. As for the ending, there’s is definitely a twist and it absolutely left me wanting more.

The characters are quite interesting and likable, but I didn’t connect with them as much as I thought I would. I enjoyed getting to know Ziva and watching her character grow over the course of the story, but there are some things about her that didn’t really sit well with me.

All in all, I felt like Moulton created a wonderful and unique fantasy tale that would appeal to plenty of readers. I think the writing is good, the world building is fantastic, and the overall storyline is intriguing and engaging enough. While the characters aren’t spectacular, they’re still likable and pretty interesting.  If you enjoy this type of books and want a fun adventure with a mix of mythology and magic, then you’ll probably be entertained with this book.

I received a free physical copy of this book from the author and publisher for participating in a blog tour hosted by TLC Book Tours in exchange for fair and honest review. Thank you Blink, Courtney Moulton, and TLC Book tours. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

synopsis4

Margaret Brinton keeps her promises, and the one she is most determined to keep is the promise to protect her heart.

Warwickshire, England, 1812

Fooled by love once before, Margaret vows never to be played the fool again. To keep her vow, she attends a notorious matchmaking party intent on securing the perfect marital match: a union of convenience to someone who could never affect her heart. She discovers a man who exceeds all her hopes in the handsome and obliging rake Mr. Northam.

There’s only one problem. His meddling cousin, Lord Williams, won’t leave Margaret alone. Condescending and high-handed, Lord Williams lectures and insults her. When she refuses to give heed to his counsel, he single-handedly ruins Margaret’s chances for making a good match—to his cousin or anyone else. With no reason to remain at the party, Margaret returns home to discover her father has promised her hand in marriage—to Lord Williams.

Under no condition will Margaret consent to marrying such an odious man. Yet as Lord Williams inserts himself into her everyday life, interrupting her family games and following her on morning walks, winning the good opinion of her siblings and proving himself intelligent and even kind, Margaret is forced to realize that Lord Williams is exactly the type of man she’d hoped to marry before she’d learned how much love hurt. When paths diverge and her time with Lord Williams ends, Margaret is faced with her ultimate choice: keep the promises that protect her or break free of them for one more chance at love. Either way, she fears her heart will lose.

mythoughtsA Delightfully Charming, Beautifully Written, and

Irresistibly Endearing Love Story

5hearts2

I am so utterly and wholeheartedly smitten with this book. Promised by Leah Garriot is a such a charming and wonderfully written romance story and I enjoyed everything about it.

After reading the first few pages, I knew that I would love this book and I honestly really did. The writing is exquisitely beautiful and I was absolutely enamored with Garriott’s storytelling that I could not put the book down. I loved the setting and descriptions, the pacing is amazing and there was never a dull moment, and the plot is so satisfyingly entertaining. I also really enjoyed the Jane Austen feel of the story. Garriott did a fantastic job creating a story that is reminiscent of a famous classic author while still standing on its own with a promising storyline that surprises and does not disappoint. With plenty of drama, banter, humor, heartbreak, romance, and unexpected twists and turns, this precious book definitely had me enthralled and hooked the entire time.

The characters are perfectly flawed and likeable. They’re also relatable in many ways as they make mistakes, learn from them, and grow continuosly throughout the story. They each have their own loveable quirks, charm, and complexities which made them such fascinating characters. Margaret and Lord Gregory Williams are both amazing leads and I absolutely adored them. I loved their chemistry from the start and I couldn’t wait to see their interactions and how their relationship will be. I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the fun, but I just want to say that there are plenty of swoony feels, heart-melting scenes, and beautiful moments that make this story amazingly interesting and a delight to read.

There are so many things I loved and enjoyed about this book and if I could discuss them all, I really would. If you enjoy historical romance stories or those similar to Pride and Prejudice, then I think you’ll really want to check this book out. The writing is exceptional and I can honestly say that I’m going to be adding this on my favorite books for 2020. There’s plenty of scenes that will make you smile and laugh, some are a bit cheesy and cringy, and others are just perfectly adorable. The characters are likeable and intriguing and the relationships between the them are so interesting and fun. I enjoyed the humor and bantering and the storyline overall is well done, exciting, and filled with so many heartfelt moments. I really loved this book and I hope you will too.

Delightfully witty, absolutely charming, and wonderfully romantic, Promised by Leah Garriott is filled with so many lovely and sweet moments that absolutely warmed my heart.  The writing is refreshing and addictive, the characters are relatable and loveable, and the plot is irresistibly fun and engaging. With twists and turns that kept me on my toes and turning the pages, Leah Garriot impressed me with her debut novel and I cannot wait to read more from her.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
