divider4On her deathbed, my mother said the heart is a lonely hunter.

“Organs, Jude, are like people. They need company, a backup to rely on. That’s why we have lungs, tonsils, hands, legs, fingers, toes, eyes, nostrils, teeth, and lips. Only the heart works alone. Like Atlas, it carries the weight of our existence on its shoulders quietly, only rebelling when disturbed by love.”

She said a lonely heart — such as my lonely heart — would never fall in love and so far, she wasn’t wrong.

Maybe that’s why tonight happened. divider4

divider4synopsis

From bestselling author L.J. Shen, comes a new standalone, enemies-to-lovers romance.

Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.
Notorious playboy.
Heir to a media empire.
…And my new boss.

I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.
I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory–namely, his wallet.
Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.
But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.
Brooklyn girl.
Infamously quirky.
Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.
When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.
He knows it.
So do I.
Every day in the newsroom is a battle.
Every night in his bed, war.
But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag

divider4I’ve read other books by LJ Shen and really enjoyed them. I’ve since added her other books and this book is just one of the many I think will be a fun sexy read. Don’t think I’ll be able to read this before 2018 ends, but definitely planning on binging LJ Shens books next year.

Julia’s world was blue.

Blue was everything. Blue was safe. Blue was home.

How she longed to see read.

She could just glimpse it from the alley in which she crouched. The forests of the Red were ever present, cradling and encroaching on stone and blue paint. The tops of the trees danced over the stuccoed walls of the buildings that formed the Blue: the last city on earth.

divider4synopsis

In the Blue, the world’s last city, all is not well.

Julia is stuck within its walls. She serves the nobility from a distance until she meets Lucas, a boy who believes in fairytales that Julia’s world can’t accommodate. The Blue is her prison, not her castle, and she’d escape into the trees if she didn’t know that contamination and death awaited humanity outside.

But not everyone in the Blue is human, and not everyone can be contained.

Beyond the city’s boundaries, in the wild forests of the Red, Cameron has precious little humanity left to lose. As he searches for a lost queen, he finds an enemy rising that he thought long dead. An enemy that the humans have forgotten how to fight.

One way or another, the walls of the Blue are coming down. The only question is what side you’ll be on when they do.

divider4I was approached by the author to read and review this book and when I read the blurb, I was quite intrigued. It sounded thrilling, fun, and a very interesting dystopian story. I  love this genre too, so of course I said yes… and I definitely made a good choice. I’m reading this right now and while I’m not too far ahead into the story just yet, I’m already  liking it. A LOT! The writing is engaging and easy to read. The world building is just so enthralling and I’m loving everything so far. I also liked that the plot is well-paced and the characters are wonderfully complex. Oh and you guys… there are vampires in this book… VAMPIRES. I have such a big weakness for vampire stories cause they have always fascinated me. I’m definitely one of those girls who wishes they were real… well the irresistibly sexy, hot, and non-killing kind of course.

I know it may be too early to say since I’m not even halfway through the book, but I have a really good feeling that this is going to be a 4 – 5 hearts read for me.
