You’d think a girl with the most romantic name in the world would have her pick of boyfriends.
But Valentine’s Day sucks when you’re single. Just ask Juliet Valentine, whose last name happens to also be the name of the most dreaded made-up holiday ever.
A romantic at heart, this year is especially hard on Juliet. Her sister, Layla, is in a new relationship, her mom’s match-making business is doing great, and her school’s new fundraiser is “Love-Grams.”
Juliet’s miserable, a little jealous, and lonely.
Quarterback Jared Black is the most popular guy in school. A star athlete, Jared tops the most-eligible bachelor list year after year. But to Juliet Valentine, he’s all but invisible. She isn’t impressed.
Jared’s never had to work hard to get the attention of a girl before. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and he’s determined to ask Juliet out. After all, if Tyler can win over Layla, Jared ought to have a shot with Layla’s sister.
Unlike Tyler and Layla, charm, flattery and good looks won’t work on Juliet. So with the V-Day dance coming up, Jared uses the school’s Love-Grams to let Juliet know how he feels. Should be simple enough, right?
Wrong. Each attempt ends up either in the trash or thrown in someone’s face. Juliet won’t play his game.
Now, without a date to the dance Jared realizes it’s going to take a Hail Mary to win the girl of his dreams.

review

Right Kiss Wrong Guy by Natalie Decker is a fun, cute and entertaining read that had me smiling and swooning.

Quarterback Jared Black, the most popular guy in school, has had his heart set on Juliet Valentine for the longest time. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, Jared is determined to finally confess his feelings for her. But Juliet just had her heart broken and vowed to never kiss and fall for the wrong kind of guys – football players. Can Jared win over Juliet’s heart in time for the Valentine’s Day dance and be with the girl of his dreams? Or will he crash and burn, and get sidelined indefinitely?

This novel was frustratingly fun! I really liked the chemistry between Jared and Juliet and totally shipped them the entire time that I had pictured this swoony ending. However, that was not the case and the ending felt a bit too rushed for me. There was so much back and forth building up the tension and drama that I was expecting there to be more… (you do get an epilogue), but it just didn’t sit well with me. That being said, I still really enjoyed reading this book. I thought the plot was incredibly amusing and interesting. The pacing was great and there was never a dull moment. I enjoyed all the bickering, the drama, the mishaps, the angst, and of course the romance. The characters were all so delightful, quirky, and hilarious. I often found myself smiling, laughing or swooning.

I loved Jared Black from the very beginning and thoroughly enjoyed his POV. He’s sweet, smart and determined. He’s also inexperienced and a bit awkward when it came to girls and dating, so watching him try to get Juliet to notice him was quite funny and super adorable. Jared’s definitely not perfect and made a bit of a mess, but he’s just so darn cute and charming and incredibly swoon-worthy that it’s difficult not to root for him.

Juliet was a great lead, but it definitely took me a while to warm up to her. She frustrated me quite a bit, but also made me laugh. She’s was stubborn, a little intimidating, and incredibly difficult, but underneath all that, she’s actually pretty sweet…in her own ways of course.   I loved that she was confident, intelligent and sassy. I also really liked that she didn’t act a certain way or change herself just so guys would like her.

I adored Layla and Tyler a lot. I didn’t read the first book, but I’m absolutely interested in reading about their story. They were just so cute together. Chase and Addy were fantastic characters and great friends to Juliet, so I hope they both get their own happy endings in the upcoming books.

This book was so much fun to read. I finished in less than 24 hours and found it positively entertaining. There were plenty of hilarious scenes, teenage angst, and swoontastic moments. If you’re in the mood for something lighthearted and adorable, then you need to have Right Kiss Wrong Guy in your TBR!

High school juniors Layla and Tyler are complete opposites. Sure she’s a cheerleader and he’s a football player, but she thinks he’s the biggest jerk in the school and he thinks she is too high on her horse to even be worthy of a second glance from him. And when the two of them are near one another, sparks fly in all the wrong directions. They are NOT interested in speaking to one another, let alone date.

But when Layla unknowingly sends Tyler a smack-down text meant for the girl sending naked photos to her then-boyfriend, Adam, Tyler has no idea it’s Layla and decides to play along. After all, Tyler cannot resist messing with the pissed off girl firing off texts about junk pictures, cheating, and girl code.

As the fallout from Adam’s sexting scandal plays out in front of the entire school, Tyler and Layla secretly continue to text one another using fake names. But as days and weeks pass, things take a turn for the serious between them, and suddenly, their texts mean more. They both begin to consider revealing their true identity to the other and taking the relationship from texts to dates, then kissing and maybe more.

They say there’s a thin line between love and hate. Can reality live up to the fantasy, or will Layla and Tyler be forever offsides?

(Spellwork Syndicate #1)
Published by: Ink Monster LLC
Publication date: January 16th 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Young Adult

For fans of Hex Hall, The Magicians, Practical Magic, and Food Wars!

Anise Wise loves three things: baking, potion making, and reading her spellbooks in blissful silence. She might not be the most powerful witch, but enchantment is a rare skill, and her ability to bake with magic is even rarer. Too bad one wants witchcraft on their campus. Anise’s dream of attending pastry school crumbles with rejection letter after rejection letter.

Desperate to escape her dead-end future, Anise contacts the long-lost relative she’s not supposed to know about. Great Aunt Agatha owns the only magic bakery in the US, and she suddenly needs a new apprentice. Anise is so excited she books it to New Mexico without thinking to ask what happened to the last girl.

The Spellwork Syndicate rules the local witches in Taos, but as “accidents” turn into full-out attacks on Anise’s life, their promises to keep her safe are less and less reassuring. Her cranky bodyguard is doing his best, but it’s hard to fight back when she has no idea who’s the enemy. Or why she became their target.

If Anise can’t find and stop whoever wants her dead, she’ll be more toasted than a crème brûlée.

Who knew baking cakes could be so life or death?

4 ★ – Magically delicious and Scrumptiously Entertaining

I had such a wonderful time reading this book. Deadly Sweet by Lola Dodge is magically delicious and scrumptiously entertaining.

This book was a light and fun read. The plot was entertaining, delightful, and made me laugh. There’s magic, baking, mystery, and plenty of delectable baked pastries. It was definitely really amusing to read about baking with magic — being able to mix in a little love, confidence, or happiness so that when someone takes a bite, that’s exactly how they’ll feel. I thought that part was really fun. Oh and be warned… you will have a never ending craving for all the different scrumptious pastries and sweets described in this book, so be sure you have something to munch on while you read.

I loved how this book had strong female characters. Anise was a fantastic and such an adorable lead. She made some mistakes along the way, but that made her incredibly relatable and so easy to root for. I also loved how passionate she was about baking. Even when things didn’t go her way, Anise remained determined to improve her skills.  I thought Great Aunt Agatha was just the best. She seemed strict and tough, but underneath she was this sweet, loving, and really kickass grandmother. I liked the supporting characters too. They were quirky and charming in their own ways, so I can’t wait to get to know them more in the next installment.

While some parts were a bit predictable, there was never a dull moment in this book. With plenty of magic, adventure, and spell-binding baked treats, Deadly Sweet is satisfyingly entertaining and deliciously fun. l’m absolutely excited to find out what happens next in this wicked series.
