August Wrap Up

Hello lovelies and Happy first day of September. August went by so fast, but it was such an awesome reading month for me. I was able to read 14 books!!! It’s been so long since I’ve read more than 10 books in a month and it felt sooo GOOD! Now all I need is make a dent on my Netgalley #TBR. It probably doesn’t help that I keep requesting, but I’m going to really try not to  this month but..but.. but.. there are just so many good books I want to read. Anyway, I ended up loving most of the books I read so without further ado, here are the books I got through in August.

To read my full review, just click the title of the book.

Mr. 60% by Clete Barrett Smith

★★ 3/4 – NOT BAD, BUT NOT AMAZING

32970056

I don’t dislike this book, but it definitely did not work for me. I think that Mr. 60% by Clete Barrett Smith is a decent story with the potential to be amazing and is probably that to other readers, but it just felt dull for me. Maybe I just went into this expecting to feel something and when I didn’t, I ended up being so disappointed that I couldn’t relate to the characters and story anymore. There were some good things about this book and I did enjoy the humor and the relationships between the characters, but it just didn’t WOW me like I thought it would.

The Big F by Maggie Ann Martin

★★★★★ – FABULOUS AND FUN

IMG_6591

OHMAHGOSH this book… I breezed through this one in less than 24 hours and absolutely loved every moment. The Big F by Maggie Ann Martin is such a heartwarming story about self-discovery, family, friendship, and love. It’s completely adorable, sweet, and just the perfect summer read that will leave a smile on your face.

Alienation (Starstruck #2) by S.E. Anderson (Beta Read)

★★★★★ – ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Alienation-Large

One of my favorite series ever!Beta read for Sarah and Alienation is absolutely fantastic. Full review to come. Read my review for Starstruck here and add Alienation on Goodreads.

The Crowns of Croswald (The Croswald Series #1) by D.E. Night

★★★★★ – MAGICAL AND MESMERIZING

IMG_5801

The description of the world in this book is just amazing – breathtakingly rich and so detailed that I felt like I was in Croswald myself. I don’t want to give you more than that because you need to experience it for yourself… But even if I did, I just don’t think there are enough words to describe how beautiful the world is… Just know that Croswald is whimsical, fascinating and undeniably one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to.

Above the Sky (Above the Sky #1) by J.W. Lynne

★★★★★ – Brilliant and Thrilling

Above the Sky cover 1600

I’m so happy Jen asked me to read her book and now I have a new series to rave about. The writing and world building is amazing. The characters are absolutely lovable. The plot is fast paced, full of action, and filled with a lot of twists and turns that will leaving you wanting more. Above the Sky is fantastic in so many ways and I can’t wait to read the sequel.

Vicarious (Vicarious #1) by Paula Stokes

★★★★★ – INTENSE, TWISTED AND MIND-BLOWING!

IMG_6208

Vicarious is haunting, riveting, and absolutely fantastic. Paula Stokes not only manages to keep you guessing and on the edge, but she also excels in creating complicated, but lovable characters. The plot is thrilling, action-packed and full of twist that will completely blow your mind! I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but Stokes surely knows how to keep you on your toes. The mystery, the secrets, the drama, the action, the slow burn romance (yes! there’s a little romance and it’s so sweet) had me flipping the pages way past my bed time.

Ferocious (Vicarious  #2) by Paula Stokes

★★★★★ – EXPLOSIVE ENDING

Starswept by Mary Fan

★★★★★ – BEAUTIFUL AND UNFORGETTABLE

IMG_5873

Starswept is absolutely beautiful through and through. I mean the book itself is ridiculously gorgeous! The cover, the design, and the interior chapter spreads… I seriously don’t think I’ve ever seen such a pretty book. And you know the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” well you can just throw that out the window right now because Starswept is stunning and undeniably mesmerizing.

Her Book Boyfriend by K.R. Grace

★★★★ – SHORT BUT SUPER SWEET

IMG_6656

I’ve never read anything by K.R. Grace before, but I enjoyed this one so much that I’m excited to check out her other books. The romance is super sweet and adorable. I definitely went to sleep with a dorky smile on my face. If you’re looking for a quick, fun and enjoyable story with witty and lovable characters, then definitely pick this up!

Bell of Eternity (Celtic Legends #2) by Martina Boone

★★★★ 1/2 – ABSOLUTELY HEARTWARMING

34947351

I LOVE Lake of Destiny so I was super excited when Martina Boone sent me an ARC of Bell of Eternity. Brando had already charmed me in every possible way, so I couldn’t wait to get started on his book. I must admit…Lake of Destiny still takes the #1 spot in my heart… BUT Brando and Emma’s love story definitely made me swoon. With gorgeous writing, breathtaking setting, heartwarming storyline, sweet romance, lovable characters, intrigue and a bit of mystery, Bell of Eternity will take a piece of your heart. Celtic Legends is definitely one of my favorite series ever and I absolutely cannot wait to read what comes next. I’ll have a longer review later on.

Dirty Little Secret (Forbidden Desires #1) by Kendall Ryan

★★★★- IRRESISTIBLE AND SEXY

34948540

Really enjoyed this one! Full review to come

No Ordinary Star (No Ordinary Star #1) M.C. Frank

★★★★★ – EXTRA ORDINARY!

IMG_6710

This book is probably one of the shortest book I’ve read, but it’s definitely not lacking. It’s beautifully written – elegant, poetic, and affecting. I’m completely enthralled by this story and can’t wait to see what happens in the next two installments. I’m already missing Felix and Astra…Oh and I really hope the hint of “romance” becomes stronger because I’m totally shipping tin soldier and match girl.

Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller

★★★ – INTERESTING, BUT JUST OKAY

IMG_7903

While this book didn’t quite work for me, I do think Miller has some great ideas and the potential to write an amazing sequel. I’m not too confident I can recommend this 100%, but just because I didn’t love it, doesn’t mean you won’t. Also, I’m still quite interested in reading the sequel because after that ending… well I just have to know what happens next.

Breaking the Rules of Revenge By Samantha Bohrman

★★★★★ – SWOONY AND SO FUN

36054664

This book is so much fun! Full Review to come.

So how did you do with your August TBR? What were some of your favorite books? Let me know in the comments down below!

August TBR

Here are the books I’m planning on reading this month. I’m aiming pretty high here, but I have so many to read to catch up on my TBR. Hopefully I get through them all.

Starswept by Mary FanIMG_5877

In 2157, the Adryil—an advanced race of telepathic humanoids—contacted Earth. A century later, 15-year-old violist Iris Lei considers herself lucky to attend Papilio, a prestigious performing arts school powered by their technology.

A sudden encounter with an Adryil boy upends her world. Iris longs to learn about him and his faraway realm, but after the authorities arrest him for trespassing, the only evidence she has of his existence is the mysterious alien device he slipped to her.

When she starts hearing his voice in her head, she wonders if her world of backstabbing artists and pressure for perfection is driving her insane. Then, she discovers that her visions of him are real—by way of telepathy—and soon finds herself lost in the kind of impossible love she depicts in her music.

But even as their bond deepens, Iris realizes that he’s hiding something from her—and it’s dangerous.

This book is the prettiest thing ever!!! I can’t wait to get into this book.

ImmersedImmersed (Configured #2) by Jenetta Penner

Just when she thought it was safe to step into the light.

After a daring escape from Elore, Avlyn finds that the Outerbounds isn’t the haven of freedom she’s hoped for. Deception and lies run rampant. Avlyn’s powerful Immersion ability marks her as dangerous, but highly valuable. Will she find her place in this new world? Or have to die trying?

I read Configured last year and absolutely loved it.   I can’t wait to continue Avlyn’s journey.

IMG_5801The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night

For sixteen years Ivy Lovely has been hidden behind an enchanted boundary that separates the mundane from the magical. When Ivy crosses the border, her powers awaken. Curiosity leads her crashing through a series of adventures at the Halls of Ivy, a school where students learn to master their magical blood and the power of Croswald’s mysterious gems. When Ivy’s magic––and her life––is threatened by the Dark Queen, she scrambles to unearth her history and save Croswald before the truth is swept away forever.

I started reading a few chapters of this book two weeks ago and was really enjoying it. Then work got crazy busy again… I tried to read a few pages, but finally gave up because this type of adventure/fantasy deserves better. I hate having to stop when I’m really getting into the story.

Vicarious by Paula StokesIMG_5719

Winter Kim and her sister, Rose, work as high-tech stunt girls for Rose’s ex-boyfriend, Gideon, engaging in dangerous and enticing activities while recording their neural impulses for his Vicarious Sensory Experiences, or ViSEs. Whether it’s bungee jumping, shark diving, or grinding up against celebrities at the city’s hottest dance clubs, Gideon can make it happen for you—for a price.

When Rose disappears and a ViSE recording of her murder is delivered to Gideon, Winter is devastated. She won’t rest until she finds her sister’s killer. But when the clues she uncovers conflict with the digital recordings her sister made, Winter isn’t sure what to believe. To find out what happened to Rose, she’ll have to untangle what’s real from what only seems real, risking her life in the process.

I love Paula Stokes writing style in her YA contemporary books so I’m quite intrigue about this one.

Ferocios by Paula Stokes ferocious_final_web res

When Winter Kim finds out that her sister is dead and that she has a brother she never knew about, only two things matter―finding what’s left of her family and killing the man who destroyed her life. Her mission leads her from St. Louis to Los Angeles back to South Korea, where she grew up.

Things get increasingly dangerous once Winter arrives in Seoul. Aided by her friends Jesse and Sebastian, Winter attempts to infiltrate an international corporation to get close to her target, a nefarious businessman named Kyung. But keeping her last remaining loved ones out of the line of fire proves difficult, and when all seems to be lost, Winter must face one last devastating decision: is revenge worth sacrificing everything for? Or can she find a spark of hope in the darkness that threatens to engulf her?

But there are strict rules and few choices.

When Assignment Day comes for Seven, the assignments shatter everything she’s ever believed. The rules force everyone to accept their fates, but Seven decides to do something unprecedented: to go against the Decision Makers’ wishes.

This book sounds really interesting and I’m excited to read it.

A book about wishing and romance…sign me up!

Mr. 60% by Clete Barrett Smith 32970056

Matt Nolan is the high school drug dealer, deadbeat, and soon-to-be dropout according to everyone at his school. His vice principal is counting down the days until Mr. 60% (aka Matt) finally flunks out and is no longer his problem. What no one knows is the only reason Matt sells drugs is to take care of his uncle Jack, who is dying of cancer.

Meet Amanda. The overly cheerful social outcast whose optimism makes Matt want to hurl. Stuck as partners during an after-school club (mandatory for Matt), it’s only a matter of time until Amanda discovers Matt’s secret. But Amanda is used to dealing with heartbreak, and she’s determined to help Matt find a way to give life 100 percent.

I’m super excited to read this one. Sounds like it’s going to be one of those books that’s going to make me cry.

The Big F by Maggie Ann Martin 30046340

Danielle’s plans for the future were pretty easy to figure out… until she failed senior English and her single college application was denied. Suddenly she’s in hot water with very few options, because honestly who applies to a safety school when their mom is a semi-famous “college psychic”?!

Determined to get her life back on track, Danielle enrolls in her hometown community college with a plan: pass her English class and get back into Ohio State and her mother’s good graces. Romance isn’t on her radar… until she reconnects with her childhood crush and golden-boy-next-door, Luke.

Between family drama, first love and finding her own way, Danielle can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed. Thankfully she has her friendship with the snarky and frustratingly attractive Porter, her coworker at the campus bookstore, to push her to experience new things and help keep her afloat.

I love contemporary and romance and coming-of-age stories. This sounds like fun!

Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller 29960675

Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home.

When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen’s personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge.

But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.

Assassins, deadly competitions and romance… what could be more interesting than that?

So that’s my TBR for August.  What books are you planning to read this month? Let me know in the comments below.
