Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.
Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

reviewthoughts

Everything Under the Sun Jessica Redmerski was one hell of ride that had me holding my breath and clutching my heart the entire time. It was thrilling, suspenseful, and an emotionally draining reading experience and I loved every second I spent with Atticus and Thais… even the parts that made my cry and just broke me over and over again.

A broken, dangerous, and cruel world. Two lost souls trying to fight their own demons and find a way back to the light. A small chance for survival. A glimmer of hope in the distance. And a love that will never die.

This story was so well-developed, beautifully written, and incredibly moving. I knew I would enjoy this when I read the premise, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with it and Atticus, Thais, Sosie, Evelyn, Edgar, Jeffrey, June, and every character and every aspect that made this book undeniably amazing and just so utterly fascinating from start to finish. Yes, there were some slow parts here and there, and some moments that were very difficult to read that I just wanted it to be over, but this story made me THINK a lot, FEEL so much, and WANT to make a difference.

The world building and concept of the story felt so realistic that I could imagine myself living in it and experiencing everything the characters went through. I feel emotionally spent from reading this book, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that were moments that made smile, laugh, hope, swoon, and want to just hug everyone I love. This book was a very long, dangerously dark, and extremely affecting journey that had me feeling uneasy plenty of times. The world can be really cruel and ugly and my heart is still aching as I write this review. The ending was bittersweet and left me in such a mess that I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment cause seriously… I need to know what happens next.

I adored the characters — good and bad, heroes and villains… I really did. I thought  Redmerski did a fantastic job creating complex, perfect flawed, and incredibly interesting characters who made me feel so many different emotions. They each played their roles really well and my heart hurt for them all. I don’t want to go into specifics, but you will feel sadness, gratitude, revulsion, joy, fury, hope, vengence, happiness, love and so much more as you read the story and meet all the characters. And that’s one of the things I love about this book — to feel so emotionally connected to the characters.

The romance was so swoony and I adored Atticus and Thais so much. Their chemistry was amazing and I loved how they both challenged each other to be better versions of themselves. Their relationship wasn’t easy and they had their own battles to fight, but it was so wonderful to see them grow closer together — to witness them trust each other, become friends, and eventually as two people so in love they would do anything to protect and save each other no matter what.

The story and these characters made my heart hurt so much and had me in tears a few times. With a dangerously dark post-apocalyptic world that both terrified and intrigued me, a gripping and thrilling storyline that had me completely hooked, broken but lovable characters that I absolutely adored, and a delicious slow burn romance that had me swooning and aching in the best way, Everything Under the Sun was EVERYTHING I could hope for and more. It was absolutely addictive from beginning to end and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher and Rock Star Book Tours in exchange for an honest and fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. authorbio2

A man-god and his army of religious zealots swarmed the South nine years ago. As a child, Malik watched severed heads falling, blood spurting onto concrete, and his dear grandfather run through by a black sword.

But there’s peace…somewhere. At least that’s what Malik tells himself as his body is ripped apart by whips at a religious conversion camp. That’s what his best friend whispers as he frantically creates new force jetpacks to rescue Malik.

Yet when war bursts through the skies, and the sky troopers, assassins, and heroes fall—when the world comes crashing down—Malik Zzoha stands strong amidst the sands, infidel of the state number one.

Golden Skies is the first book in the The New Order trilogy.

A wave of pain rippled through my back, and I groaned. It is time that she learned her place. Worry surged through me as Mujadin’s threat from the platform echoed in my mind. Eliza. I grew cold at the thought of what consequences lay ahead for my sister. Under the holy rules established by Safad, a man had the right to do with his wife and offspring as he wished. That’s why my mother had never left my father. She would’ve been executed at the platform by his wretched, black sword if she’d tried.

The door to my chamber flew open, wrenching me from my thoughts, and an older man walked in. White facial hair covered his face. Royal blue cloth was wrapped tightly around the top of his head, and in his hands, he carried a wooden stool along with a thick book. Kind eyes met me with a warm smile—a priest of the Eternal Circle, the rank established seven years ago when Safad codified his laws and philosophy during the first years of his rule. My father had wanted me to join them—that was why he sent me to the university in the first place; Safad’s priests acted as judges in the bigger cities of our country.

“Well, hello, my son. I apologize that I took so long in arriving. I see that I might’ve spared you some discomfort.” The old man placed the stool a yard away from me and sank down on it, moving the black tome he carried reverently onto his lap; royal blue letters glistened, displaying the title The Divine Truth.

“My name is Dia, and yours?”

“Why am I in chains?” I asked.

“My, my. How rude. Are you not going to answer my question?”

I stared at him.

Dia shook his head. “You are in those chains because you are a savage. You have been brought here to become civilized. To learn the truth of Safad and to accept him as your god.”

I laughed, taken aback at the absurdity. I gave a hideous grin.
