Blog Tour – The Uncrossing

Road to Publication

I wrote several full drafts of the stories that became The Uncrossing, including three early versions with half the same characters in a completely different situation. My break on the road to publication came when I submitted the manuscript to Entangled Teen, and my editor, Kate Brauning, offered me the chance to revise and resubmit. Her first round of notes were so insightful and helpful for that revision, I knew I wanted to work with her and with Entangled.

Luke can uncross almost any curse—they unravel themselves for him like no one else. So working for the Kovrovs, one of the families controlling all the magic in New York, is exciting and dangerous, especially when he encounters the first curse he can’t break. And it involves Jeremy, the beloved, sheltered prince of the Kovrov family—the one boy he absolutely shouldn’t be falling for.
Jeremy’s been in love with cocky, talented Luke since they were kids. But from their first kiss, something’s missing. Jeremy’s family keeps generations of deadly secrets, forcing him to choose between love and loyalty. As Luke fights to break the curse, a magical, citywide war starts crackling, and it’s tied to Jeremy.
This might be the one curse Luke can’t uncross. If true love’s kiss fails, what’s left for him and Jeremy?

Book Tag

Happy FriYay Lovelies!! Have any fun plans for the weekend?!? As for me, my boyfriend and I will be going to Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor. If you’ve been following me, then you may have read/know that I love scary movies and being scared. We usually go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios, but the mazes doesn’t look that great this year and I just don’t have the budget to afford the front of the line pass so we decided to skip it. I’m pretty excited for Dark Harbor though since I haven’t been in a while. Hoping to get some good scares tomorrow!!!

Anyway, today I decided to catch up on my blog postings and did this really fun tag I saw on Nose Stuck on a Book. If you’re not following her yet, then definitely check out her lovely blog. She writes awesome reviews and always have fun book tag posts. Now let’s get to my Soundtrack to My Life Book Tag.

Opening Credits: Favorite Childhood book

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Growing up, I actually didn’t like reading that much. When I moved here to the U.S. from the Philippines I struggled so much with my reading classes. I never continued with the series, but I remember reading that book for one of my summer reading projects and really enjoying it. Probably took me forever, but I thought it was absolutely magical

Waking up: A book that got you out of a reading slump

YA contemporaries/romances or NA romances usually do the trick for me. I rarely get into reading slumps, but when I do, I always try to find something that is a quick and fun read. The last one that got me out of a reading slump was Northwoods Magic. If you’re interested, you can read my review for that book here.

School: A book you had to read for school that you ended up loving

Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite classics. To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in Rye are some of my other loves.

Falling In Love: An author you love so much you want to read all of their books

Am I allowed to have more than 1? Because I do – Marie Lu, Tahareh Mafi, Marissa Meyer, Kasie West, Jennifer Niven, Jenny Han, Nicola Yoon, Leigh Bardugo, S.E. Anderson, Paula Stokes, Colleen Hoover and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Fight: Book with the best action sequences

The Legends of Orkney Trilogy (a middle-grade series), The Lunar Chronicles, The Legend Series and the Doon Series had some awesome action scenes that kept me on the edge.

Break up: A book or series you didn’t finish and do not intend to finish

I really try not to DNF a book. I usually just put it aside for a while if I really can’t get into it and try again sometime later whenever that is. The most recent one I almost did DNF was Mask of Shadows and the last one I “put aside” (more than a year ago) was And I Darken.

Hanging With Friends: Book you think everyone else should read

The Lunar Chronicles, The Doon Series, The Young Elites Series, and A Messy, Beautiful Life (I just recently finished this one and it hit me so hard).

Breakdown: Book that seriously affected you/had you crying your eyes out

I’m such a big cry baby. Seriously I can watch something and not know the whole story and still cry. The most recent book that really got to me one was A Short History of the Girl Next Door. I wasn’t expecting to be crying till my eyes hurt, but I did. Hopeless by Colleen Hoover broke me into pieces. I remember reading The Notebook in high school and crying a lot. I’m just an extremely emotional person.

Roadtrip: You favorite series (more than 3 books)

The Lunar Chronicles, Doon Series, and Twilight (just because this really got me back into reading)

Flashback: Your favorite book from 5 years ago

Mannn I’m getting old cause I can’t remember. I think it was probably The Hunger Games series.

Getting Back Together: What book can you not stop rereading

I don’t reread as much as I want to since there are soo many books on my TBR. I’ll probably reread a few chapters of my favorite books (and there’s too many to mention) when I’m in the mood or want to relive certain parts. The last book I remember rereading and loving was Inception by Bianca Scardoni. It’s a YA paranormal romance with angels and vampires.

Wedding: A book that is really special to you

Do I have to answer this? I mean how can I pick one book special to me when most of the books I’ve read have their own special place in my heart?

Moment of Triumph: Longest book you’ve ever read

I believe it was Winter from the Lunar Chronicles.

Death Scene: Book or series you wish had ended differently

The Midnight Star. I loved the ending. It was bittersweet and the perfect conclusion…but there’s a small part.. a very very small part of me that wanted it to go a different way.

Funeral: Book with the best or worst epilogue

The Selection and The Legend Series. I thought they were wonderfully done.

End Credits: Who do you tag?

EVERYONE OF COURSE! So if you’re reading this, then TAG!

Hope you enjoyed reading as much as I did answering them. If you want to do this, don’t forget to tag me in your post so I can read what you have to say! Really excited for all you lovelies to do this.

Sincerely Karen Jo
