Welcome to Gemini City, where super-battles disrupt rush hour, insurance claim adjusters rival rock stars, and villains stash the souls of murdered superheroes inside little children.

It’s been ten years since Shay Sinclair’s parents were murdered by a super villain, leaving she and her sister to fend for themselves. Now at age sixteen, Shay has something that villain wants. Something he needs. After a chance encounter with a superhero in a stairwell, something awakens in Shay, something that could get her killed.

Max Steel has spent the last ten years searching for one particular soul. Now, a coincidental run-in with Shay Sinclair leaves Max closer than he’s ever been to everything he’s ever wanted. But Max hits a brick wall when he goes after her. Unlike other girls her age, Shay isn’t into superheroes. So, if Max wants to win her over and be reunited with the soul inside her, he must get creative. He invites Shay into a seductive world of fame, glamour, luxury, and epic battles with villainous foes.

Now that Shay’s in the mix with superheroes and crazed villains, everyone wants a piece of her. A super villain wants to devour her soul, a superhero wants to love her, and Shay just wants to go back to her normal life. It’s not like in the movies. In real life, superheroes suck.

I absolutely adore this scene from Superheroes Suck. Here, we get our first peek into the secret meetings of Gemini City’s elusive superheroes.

In the boardroom at Ling Enterprises, Max shifted in a stiff chair. He stared at his reflection on the glossy table in front of him. The city saw a celebrity … a hero when they looked at him, yet he saw a coward. After years of barely surviving beatdowns, he’d finally captured his arch nemesis and he couldn’t bring himself to face the guy. He’d actually shown up to one of Simon and Alexie’s superhero meetings to avoid the man imprisoned in this building’s basement.

“We’ve received another summons.”

Simon’s voice cut into Max’s thoughts before it traveled out to circle the wide-open boardroom.

“Let me see that.” Max leaned onto the table and snatched the paper from Simon’s hand. “My name’s not even on here. I’m Max Storm, not Firestorm. Who’d they mail this to, Mr. Amazing?”

He turned the paper over and read the address label. “Nope. It’s to you, Simon Ling, but on the summons they put Mr. Amazing. We shouldn’t have to go.”

“Max is right,” Alexie said, which surprised Max more than Simon. “If they don’t even have the decency to use our real names, why should we show up? I’d like to issue a summons to the idiot who came up with Electric-Luxie. It’s so stupid.”

“You should listen to your fake girlfriend,” Max said, winking at Simon.

Simon glowered, almost a growl, his fingers curling into a fist.

“I mean Alexie.” Max lifted his hands, scooting his chair away from Simon. “You should listen to Alexie.”

“Don’t start, Max,” Alexie said through gritted teeth.

Sitting around a shiny table and pretending to live a perfect life would be the reason Max skipped the daily superhero meetings.

Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.
Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

reviewthoughts

Everything Under the Sun Jessica Redmerski was one hell of ride that had me holding my breath and clutching my heart the entire time. It was thrilling, suspenseful, and an emotionally draining reading experience and I loved every second I spent with Atticus and Thais… even the parts that made my cry and just broke me over and over again.

A broken, dangerous, and cruel world. Two lost souls trying to fight their own demons and find a way back to the light. A small chance for survival. A glimmer of hope in the distance. And a love that will never die.

This story was so well-developed, beautifully written, and incredibly moving. I knew I would enjoy this when I read the premise, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with it and Atticus, Thais, Sosie, Evelyn, Edgar, Jeffrey, June, and every character and every aspect that made this book undeniably amazing and just so utterly fascinating from start to finish. Yes, there were some slow parts here and there, and some moments that were very difficult to read that I just wanted it to be over, but this story made me THINK a lot, FEEL so much, and WANT to make a difference.

The world building and concept of the story felt so realistic that I could imagine myself living in it and experiencing everything the characters went through. I feel emotionally spent from reading this book, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that were moments that made smile, laugh, hope, swoon, and want to just hug everyone I love. This book was a very long, dangerously dark, and extremely affecting journey that had me feeling uneasy plenty of times. The world can be really cruel and ugly and my heart is still aching as I write this review. The ending was bittersweet and left me in such a mess that I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment cause seriously… I need to know what happens next.

I adored the characters — good and bad, heroes and villains… I really did. I thought  Redmerski did a fantastic job creating complex, perfect flawed, and incredibly interesting characters who made me feel so many different emotions. They each played their roles really well and my heart hurt for them all. I don’t want to go into specifics, but you will feel sadness, gratitude, revulsion, joy, fury, hope, vengence, happiness, love and so much more as you read the story and meet all the characters. And that’s one of the things I love about this book — to feel so emotionally connected to the characters.

The romance was so swoony and I adored Atticus and Thais so much. Their chemistry was amazing and I loved how they both challenged each other to be better versions of themselves. Their relationship wasn’t easy and they had their own battles to fight, but it was so wonderful to see them grow closer together — to witness them trust each other, become friends, and eventually as two people so in love they would do anything to protect and save each other no matter what.

The story and these characters made my heart hurt so much and had me in tears a few times. With a dangerously dark post-apocalyptic world that both terrified and intrigued me, a gripping and thrilling storyline that had me completely hooked, broken but lovable characters that I absolutely adored, and a delicious slow burn romance that had me swooning and aching in the best way, Everything Under the Sun was EVERYTHING I could hope for and more. It was absolutely addictive from beginning to end and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher and Rock Star Book Tours in exchange for an honest and fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. authorbio2
