Cursed by the Key of Forgetting, Seth has lost all memory of his past—his relationships, his experiences, and who he really is. For now he will align with his new mentor, Ronodin, the dark unicorn, who takes him to the Phantom Isle, the secret gateway to the Under Realm. Though Seth is not formally a prisoner, Ronodin wants to use him and his shadow charmer powers for his own dark ends.

Kendra is frantic to find her missing brother, but the quest will take her and her companions, including Warren, Tanu, and Vanessa, far from Wyrmroost to Crescent Lagoon—a recently fallen dragon sanctuary made up of many islands and underwater domains. Its caretaker has regained a foothold on one of the islands. If Kendra and her friends can save that sanctuary, they might uncover the answers they need to rescue Seth.

With each sanctuary the dragons overthrow, Celebrant, the Dragon King, comes closer to the dawn of a new Age of Dragons. With the forces of darkness on the march, can Kendra and her allies gather enough power to win the epic dragon war?

A thrilling and delightful adventure filled with magic, mystery and dragons!

A thrilling and unforgettable tale, Master of the Phantom Isle by Brandon Mull is a delightful and fun read. The story is filled with edge of your seat suspense, exciting action scenes, mystery and adventure, and plenty of wonderful moments that will keep you turning the pages.

I have to confess…I’m not familiar with the Fablehaven series and I have not read the previous books in this one either. I had planned on reading Dragonwatch and Wrath of the Dragon King before this, but I’ve had a few setbacks and I’m quite behind on my TBR so I coulnd’t find the time to fit two more books in my schedule. Reading this book was a bit overwhelming in the beginning since I didn’t know what happened before. There are definitely some confusing parts and I had to keep track of all the characters that I’m meeting for the first time. It was a lot to take in, but I knew going into this book blind would do that and that’s on me. Having said that, I still really enjoyed exploring this fantastical world Mull has created and going on this amazing adventure. Once I got lost in the story, I was completely hooked and never wanted it to end.

This is truly a fascinating and exhilarating story for children as well as adults looking for magic and adventure. I enjoyed the breathtaking world-building, the magnificent dragons, the other magical creatures, and the charming characters. Like I said, I don’t really know much about this series, but I definitely think Mull’s writing is enthralling and absolutely addictive. I can see why so many readers are fans of this series and his other books. With a fast-paced plot full of suspense, mystery, action, and a few surprises, Mull keeps anxious and eagerly anticipating what’s to come. The multiple POVs from the characters take you on different journeys and all are very exciting and fun. There’s never a dull moment, the characters are loveable and hilarious, and the ending will leave you desperate for the next installment.

I enjoyed meeting all the characters. They’re quirky, brave, and absolutely intriguing.  Kendra is an amazing heroine and I love her determination to find her brother. Seth fascinated me from the start and I enjoyed watching him figure out who he really is and how his powers work. The side characters are interesting too and so are the villains. I think Mull develops his characters really well and brings them to life in such a wonderful way. You’ll root for them, care for them, and just want them to succeed in whatever they do. In the short time I spent with them, these amazing characters have managed to take a piece of my heart and I felt so much for them.

Brimming with mystery, magic, dragons, suspense, humor, twists, and surprises, Master of the Phantom Isle by Brandon Mull is an utterly thrilling and fun read. Even though there are things that took a while to process, a lot of characters and magical creatures to remember, and some confusing parts, I honestly enjoyed reading this book and was mesmerized by the world-building… so much that I’m going to be adding this series and the Fablehaven on my TBR. Mull’s imagination and storytelling too me on an epic adventure and left me wanting more.

If you’re looking for a fun fantasy tale that will keep you reading past your bedtime, then I highly recommend you add this book and series on your TBR.

I received a physical copy of this book from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A charming, witty, and heartwarming modern fairy tale story

4halfhearts

Charming, witty, and heartwarming, Glass Slippers, Ever After, and Me by Julie Wright is a refreshing and fun story with plenty of wonderful moments that will make you believe in happily ever afters.

I love a good clean contemporary romance and this one is engaging, well-written, and enchanting. I enjoyed the modern fairy tale twist, the relatable life situations throughout the story, and the relevant themes that will teach you a thing or two. The quotes in the beginning chapters are thought-provoking, fun to read, and one my favorite things about this book. Definitely surprising and quite unpredictable, this lovely story gave me the feels, made me smile, and had me laughing a few times. It’s just a really great feel good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The beginning is a bit slow for me, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy those chapters. I loved getting to know Charlotte “Lettie,” Andres, Kat and just seeing Lettie go through her daily life. It’s filled with delightful and entertaining moments that warmed my heart, so slow doesn’t always necessarily mean the story is boring. When the plot starts to really pick up and Lettie’s dream has finally come true, well everything falls into place (or falls out) and I could not stop reading. Even when I was feeling really frustrated (certain characters will just get on your nerve and make you want to throw the book), I still didn’t want to stop cause I just had to know what would happen next. The romance is “clean,” but there are plenty of sweet kisses and cutesy moments between Lettie and Andres that will totally give you butterflies. I think they’re cute, adorable, and just really great together. The ending is believable, heartfelt, and a beautiful happily ever after.

I really liked characters and yes… even the villains. I think everyone plays their part really well and they all seemed realistic. Lettie is such a loveable and relatable protagonist. I love her quirks, her drive, her personality, and her flaws. She’s resilient, caring, and has a big heart. I loved seeing her grow and realize what truly matters and makes her happy. I also really love her close bond with her step-sister, Kat and how much she adores her. Seeing her friendship with Andres change and develop into something more definitely made me swoon and I just love them together. Andres is charming, loyal, a good friend, and so sweet. He’s not without flaws, but I do think he’s a really good guy and more than makes up for something he does that didn’t sit well me. I definitely would have loved to have his POV in the story. I think knowing what he’s thinking and feeling would be really interesting and fun.

Julie Wright has written a delightful, fun, and realistic modern day fairy tale story that will absolutely warm your heart and leave a smile on your face. Glass Slippers, Ever After, and Me is so much more than a love story and definitely surprised me in more ways than I thought possible. It’s relevant, meaningful, and thought-provoking. I loved the relationships, the messages, the themes, and the lessons. This book really makes you think about what’s important in your life and inspires you to live in the moment. It’s a story about chasing your dreams, never giving up, staying true to who you are, cherishing your loved ones, making memories, and ultimately finding your own happily ever after and living it to the fullest!

I received a physical ARC copy of this book from the publisher, Shadow Mountain Publishing, in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
