Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.
Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

reviewthoughts

Everything Under the Sun Jessica Redmerski was one hell of ride that had me holding my breath and clutching my heart the entire time. It was thrilling, suspenseful, and an emotionally draining reading experience and I loved every second I spent with Atticus and Thais… even the parts that made my cry and just broke me over and over again.

A broken, dangerous, and cruel world. Two lost souls trying to fight their own demons and find a way back to the light. A small chance for survival. A glimmer of hope in the distance. And a love that will never die.

This story was so well-developed, beautifully written, and incredibly moving. I knew I would enjoy this when I read the premise, but I didn’t expect to fall in love with it and Atticus, Thais, Sosie, Evelyn, Edgar, Jeffrey, June, and every character and every aspect that made this book undeniably amazing and just so utterly fascinating from start to finish. Yes, there were some slow parts here and there, and some moments that were very difficult to read that I just wanted it to be over, but this story made me THINK a lot, FEEL so much, and WANT to make a difference.

The world building and concept of the story felt so realistic that I could imagine myself living in it and experiencing everything the characters went through. I feel emotionally spent from reading this book, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that were moments that made smile, laugh, hope, swoon, and want to just hug everyone I love. This book was a very long, dangerously dark, and extremely affecting journey that had me feeling uneasy plenty of times. The world can be really cruel and ugly and my heart is still aching as I write this review. The ending was bittersweet and left me in such a mess that I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment cause seriously… I need to know what happens next.

I adored the characters — good and bad, heroes and villains… I really did. I thought  Redmerski did a fantastic job creating complex, perfect flawed, and incredibly interesting characters who made me feel so many different emotions. They each played their roles really well and my heart hurt for them all. I don’t want to go into specifics, but you will feel sadness, gratitude, revulsion, joy, fury, hope, vengence, happiness, love and so much more as you read the story and meet all the characters. And that’s one of the things I love about this book — to feel so emotionally connected to the characters.

The romance was so swoony and I adored Atticus and Thais so much. Their chemistry was amazing and I loved how they both challenged each other to be better versions of themselves. Their relationship wasn’t easy and they had their own battles to fight, but it was so wonderful to see them grow closer together — to witness them trust each other, become friends, and eventually as two people so in love they would do anything to protect and save each other no matter what.

The story and these characters made my heart hurt so much and had me in tears a few times. With a dangerously dark post-apocalyptic world that both terrified and intrigued me, a gripping and thrilling storyline that had me completely hooked, broken but lovable characters that I absolutely adored, and a delicious slow burn romance that had me swooning and aching in the best way, Everything Under the Sun was EVERYTHING I could hope for and more. It was absolutely addictive from beginning to end and I honestly can’t recommend it enough.

aboutthebook2

Published May 29, 2018 by St. Martin’s Paperbacks

Genre(s): Romance, Contemporary

Paperback, 320 pages

A new kind of love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready…

SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL

Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in The Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous, but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she inadvertently catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off…

HE’S A FIXER UPPER

Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance — without burning down the house?

I FLIPPING LOVE YOU, set in the Shacking Up world, follows two people, both working in real estate, who find themselves vying for the same properties in the Hamptons, leading to a sometimes-not-so-friendly competition.

3.75 – Lighthearted and Adorably Entertaining

reviewthoughts

I’ve heard so many great things about Helena Hunting and have been wanting/planning on binging her Pucked series for a while now. However, that hasn’t happened since I’m so busy and have so many books to read and ARCs to review. But being me and a booknerd, that never stopped me from requesting for more and when I saw this on Netgalley I thought why not just go for it. The title’s a little weird and cheesy, but the synopsis seemed fun and promising.

Well, I can honestly say that I wasn’t disappointed, BUT…

I Flipping Love you was a kind of slow for me. The story itself wasn’t exceptionally breathtaking or emotionally moving with enough FEELS. I was missing that and I think that’s why I wasn’t completely crazy over this book. Nevertheless, it did have plenty of really good moments I found quite enjoyable. There were some steamy scenes, sweet swoons, a little drama here and there, and some funny parts too. Definitely made me smile and also almost had me tearing up… almost.

The characters were all pretty interesting. I thought Pierce was an awesome male lead – sexy, rich, and a bit cocky, but also considerate, kind, and romantic. Rian was smart, spunky, headstrong, and an amazing sister. I also really admired her dedication and passion. Marley was a bit irresponsible at times, but she’s also hardworking and very determined. I really did like the characters, but no one really stood out for me. Except maybe Amalie… Yeah.. I think she’s my favorite. Even if she was barely in the book, I loved all the parts with her – being so bubbly, witty and fun.

The romance was sweet and I thought the chemistry between Pierce and Rian was adorable. Even though I wasn’t on board with their romance in the beginning, I eventually warmed up. I liked the angst and how their relationship developed. They had some heartwarming moments and I enjoyed their playful bantering a lot.

The ending was pretty sweet and overall, I Flipping Love You was a delightfully fun read… I’m just not completely head over heels in love with it. That being said, I did really enjoy this novel, so I’m definitely still interested in reading Helena Hunting’s books… just not anytime soon.

This may have not swept me off my feet, but it’s still an awesome summer read – quick, light, and charming.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
