Waiting on Wednesday – Stay Sweet

waitingonwednesday

Hello lovelies!! Are you having a fantastic reading week? I sure hope so! As for me, well… it’s been ehh. These past two days were super busy and hectic, so I haven’t had the time to read. I’m really hoping that tonight I can read for 2 solid hours without too many distractions.

Now, it’s time again for another Waiting on Wednesday which is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. A similar meme, Can’t-Wait Wednesday, is hosted by Tressa over at Wishful Endings. If you’d like to participate in either one, don’t forget to link back to these lovely ladies and add your links in their posts.

My pick for this week’s “can’t wait to read” is

Stay Sweet

A summer read about first love, feminism, and ice cream.

Summer in Sand Lake isn’t complete without a trip to Meade Creamery—the local ice cream stand founded in 1944 by Molly Meade who started making ice cream to cheer up her lovesick girlfriends while all the boys were away at war. Since then, the stand has been owned and managed exclusively by local girls, who inevitably become the best of friends. Seventeen-year-old Amelia and her best friend Cate have worked at the stand every summer for the past three years, and Amelia is “Head Girl” at the stand this summer. When Molly passes away before Amelia even has her first day in charge, Amelia isn’t sure that the stand can go on. That is, until Molly’s grandnephew Grady arrives and asks Amelia to stay on to help continue the business…but Grady’s got some changes in mind…

I haven’t read any books by Siobhan Vivian, but I do have some of her books stuck on my TBR list. I’m so bad at keeping up with all the books I buy and plan to read. BUT… romance, ice cream, and feminisim — that sounds like an absolutely fun and awesome read! Definitely can’t wait to get my hands on this deliciously sweet and adorable book.

In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

I actually read a preview of this on Netgalley and thought the concept was really fascinating. I really enjoyed the first few chapters, so I bought the book on Amazon. When it finally arrived, I must have been distracted reading other books that I set this one aside with every intention of continuing. But, as you can see, it hasn’t made it out of my TBR pile. What do you think about this book? Should I bump it up and read it since the sequel is coming out soon? Let me know in the comments.
