TBR Thursdays

tbrthursday

Hello lovely readers and Happy Friday Eve!! It’s been forever since I’ve done a TBR Thursday and I’ve really missed it. I have tons and tons of books on my TBR so I thought I’d keep showing you all them. Maybe you can give me some recommendations on which ones I should bump up the list and read ASAP.

TBR Thursdays is a weekly segment that highlights books, ebooks, and ARCs that I own and have been in my TBR forever. At the end of the year, I’ll do a recap to see how many of these books I actually read.

For my first TBR Thursday 2018, I’m choosing two books – Wintersong and Shadowsong by S. Jae-Jones

Wintersong

Synopsis

Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

Synopsis

Six months after the end of Wintersong, Liesl is working toward furthering both her brother’s and her own musical careers. Although she is determined to look forward and not behind, life in the world above is not as easy as Liesl had hoped. Her younger brother Josef is cold, distant, and withdrawn, while Liesl can’t forget the austere young man she left beneath the earth, and the music he inspired in her.

When troubling signs arise that the barrier between worlds is crumbling, Liesl must return to the Underground to unravel the mystery of life, death, and the Goblin King—who he was, who he is, and who he will be. What will it take to break the old laws once and for all? What is the true meaning of sacrifice when the fate of the world—or the ones Liesl loves—is in her hands?

So I’ve had Wintersong since April 2017. I also met the lovely author during Yallwest and got my book signed. I planned on reading this, but never got to it because I was waiting to binge it when the sequel came out. Well, Shadowsong just happened to appear in my mail a few weeks ago. I think I won the ARC from a giveaway — most likely from Shelfawareness… I’m not really sure. Sometimes there’s a note in the package, so I’d know where the book was from, but most of the time there isn’t. And I’m really bad at keeping track of all the giveaways I join. Anyway, now that I have both books, I’m planning on reading them before the Shadowsong’s release date.

Have any of you read Wintersong? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Goodreads Monday

goodreadsmondays

Hello loves and Happy Monday! Hope you’re all having a great day so far and for those of you who have the day off today… Enjoy! It was really difficult for me to get out of bed this morning. Just wanted to stay all warm and cozy and sleep in. I feel like this week is going to be long, tiring and very busy… but I do have something to look forward to — Disneyland Date on Saturday!!! Disney days are my faves and it’s been almost two months since I last been there so I’m really excited to go. Anyway, lets get to my first ever Goodreads Monday post!

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme by Lauren’s Page Turners’ blog! To participate, just choose a random book from your Goodreads TBR and show it off. For this meme, I’ll be focusing on a random book that I don’t own (hardcopy or ebooks) on my Goodreads “want-to-read” page.

He Will Be My Ruin by K.A. Tucker

Published by Atria Books February 2, 2016

Genre(s): Adult, Mystery, Suspense, Romance

Pages: 353

Synopsis

On the surface, Celine Gonzalez had everything a twenty-eight-year-old woman could want: a one-bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, a job that (mostly) paid the bills, and an acceptance letter to the prestigious Hollingsworth Institute of Art, where she would finally live out her dream of becoming an antiques appraiser for a major auction house. All she had worked so hard to achieve was finally within her reach. So why would she kill herself?

A man who was supposed to be her salvation . . .

Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a lethal cocktail of pills and vodka, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers a scandalous photograph in a lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions. Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man Celine believed would change her life.

Until he became her ruin.

On the hunt for evidence that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer. A killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

I remember seeing this on Instagram and reading so many great things about it. I’ve never read anything by K.A. Tucker and I wasn’t that much into thrillers before, but after reading the synopsis on Goodreads, it sounded really exciting. I planned on either picking up the hard copy or ebook, but never did. Guess other books came out around the same time that I really wanted. Well, I’ve been reading quite a few thrillers with romance and enjoying them, so hopefully I’ll get to it this year. If I’m being honest, there are SO MANY books I’m hoping to read this year. Booknerd problems right?!?

Have any of you read this book? What did you think? Do you like thrillers and romance? Let me know in the comments below.

Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
