Happy Good Friday and Easter Weekend to everyone who celebrates!!! I’ll have a busy weekend ahead with prepping for my mom’s birthday, but I’m hoping I can go to Disneyland this Sunday for a few hours for my early birthday celebration. My mom’s birthday is 4/4 and mines 4/6 and we’re doing her birthday party on the 15th so there’s still a lot to be done.
Anyway, let’s get to today’s First Lines Fridays pick!
FIRST LINES FRIDAYS IS A WEEKLY FEATURE FOR BOOK LOVERS HOSTED BY WANDERING WORDS. WHAT IF INSTEAD OF JUDGING A BOOK BY ITS COVER, ITS AUTHOR OR ITS PRESTIGE, WE JUDGED IT BY ITS OPENING LINES?
-
PICK A BOOK OFF YOUR SHELF (IT COULD BE YOUR CURRENT READ OR ON YOUR TBR) AND OPEN TO THE FIRST PAGE
-
COPY THE FIRST FEW LINES, BUT DON’T GIVE ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE BOOK AWAY JUST YET – YOU NEED TO HOOK THE READER FIRST
-
FINALLY… REVEAL THE BOOK!
COPY AND PASTE THE TEXT AND BANNER (OR MAKE YOUR OWN!) ABOVE FOR YOUR OWN FIRST LINES FRIDAYS POSTS. MAKE SURE TO COMMENT YOUR FIRST LINES BELOW SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE CAN CHECK THEM OUT!
“Hot or cold?”
“Hot, I hate being cold. You know that about me.”
Just the thought made me shiver even though it was the middle of summer, which was probably what prompted Cooper’s question. It was hot. So hot that sweat was beading on the backs of my knees. We had been standing in life for the movie on the back for twenty minutes already, and I was looking forward to when the sun went down and the breeze picked up.
He shook his head. “I do know that, but I mean, would you rather die from freezing to death or overheating?”
“Morbid.” I pursed my lips. “But you’re right, that’s a different question. I’ve heard that dying from being cold is blissful.”
“Who did you hear this from? Are ghosts of people who froze to death visiting you?”
“Yes. Every day. Speaking of, would you rather be cursed with seeing ghosts or zombies?”
Now scroll down…
Not quite yet, so keep going…
Almost there….
Just a little more…

Seventeen-year-old Abby Turner’s summer isn’t going the way she’d planned. She has a not-so-secret but definitely unrequited crush on her best friend, Cooper. She hasn’t been able to manage her mother’s growing issues with anxiety. And now she’s been rejected from an art show because her work “has no heart.” So when she gets another opportunity to show her paintings, Abby isn’t going to take any chances.
Which is where the list comes in.
Abby gives herself one month to do ten things, ranging from face a fear (#3) to learn a stranger’s story (#5) to fall in love (#8). She knows that if she can complete the list, she’ll become the kind of artist she’s always dreamed of being.
But as the deadline approaches, Abby realizes that getting through the list isn’t as straightforward as it seems… and that maybe—just maybe—she can’t change her art if she isn’t first willing to change herself.
I absolutely LOVE Kasie’s books. They’re adorable, swoony, and so much fun to read. I always find myself smiling and just in a really happy mood whenever I read her novels, so I cannot wait to get to this one. Also cannot for Yallwest and see her again!!! She’s so nice and sweet.
Have you read this book yet? What did you think? Let me know in the comments.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!!!
