The truth doesn’t always set you free.

Orphaned as a child, Joanna has lived her entire life in the care of the New Terra Alliance. On the verge of turning eighteen, Joanna eagerly awaits her release into what remains of society.

It was a beautiful lie.

Joanna was never meant to leave. She is part of the August Harvest, slated to die before the month’s end. With a rogue soldier’s promise to find her a way out, Joanna dares to hope. But if the NTA finds out what she knows, it won’t only be her own life at stake, but the life of the handsome soldier who has vowed to set her free.

This Body Won’t Break by Lea Mckee is phenomenal and I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would.

Mckee’s writing is gorgeous and atmospheric. It doesn’t take long before the mystery, intrigue, and tension had me completely hooked. I honestly could not stop reading and became more and more anxious by the minute… and I TOTALLY LOVED IT! I do have to admit that I initially gave this a 4 star rating since it was too short for my liking and there were so many unanswered questions… BUT the more I thought about it, the set-up is actually quite ingenious. I HONESTLY have not stopped thinking about this story and the characters since I finished it.

The world building so far is eerie and disturbing, but absolutely fascinated me. The plot is enigmatic, well-written and full of action. Mckee does such a wonderful job slowly building the tension and suspense that I was literally holding my breath. The characters are likable and very interesting. I can’t wait to get to know them more and see how their stories unfold in the next 2 installments. There’s also a hint of a romance… and being a romance junkie, I’m so ready to swoon. As the story comes to an end, Mckee leads her characters to unknown and terrifying situations. I don’t want to say anymore, but if you’re looking for some fun thrills and chills, then you need to pick this up.

This Body Won’t Break may be short, but that was one of the most satisfying 2-3 hours of reading I’ve ever done. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the sequel when it comes out in October.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This Body Won’t Break is Book One of The O-Negative Series and will be published in 3 Parts (each approx. 25k words in length). Parts will be published on the first Tuesday of every month.

Henrietta doesn’t need a prophecy to know that she’s in danger. She came to London to be named the chosen one, the first female sorcerer in centuries, the one who would defeat the Ancients. Instead, she discovered a city ruled by secrets. And the biggest secret of all: Henrietta is not the chosen one.
Still, she must play the role in order to keep herself and Rook, her best friend and childhood love, safe. But can she truly save him? The poison in Rook’s system is transforming him into something monstrous as he begins to master dark powers of his own. So when Henrietta finds a clue to the Ancients past that could turn the tide of the war, she persuades Blackwood, the mysterious Earl of Sorrow-Fell, to travel up the coast to seek out strange new weapons. And Magnus, the brave, reckless flirt who wants to win back her favor, is assigned to their mission. Together, they will face monsters, meet powerful new allies, and uncover the most devastating weapon of all: the truth.

Sooo I actually haven’t read any of the books in these series, but I do own them and they’ve been in my TBR FOREVER. I am hoping to get to them this year because come 2018, there will be a ton more books I’ll be adding… the list never ends!

Jane has lived an ordinary life, raised by her aunt Magnolia—an adjunct professor and deep sea photographer. Jane counted on Magnolia to make the world feel expansive and to turn life into an adventure. But Aunt Magnolia was lost a few months ago in Antarctica on one of her expeditions.

Now, with no direction, a year out of high school, and obsessed with making umbrellas that look like her own dreams (but mostly just mourning her aunt), she is easily swept away by Kiran Thrash—a glamorous, capricious acquaintance who shows up and asks Jane to accompany her to a gala at her family’s island mansion called Tu Reviens.

Jane remembers her aunt telling her: “If anyone ever invites to you to Tu Reviens, promise me that you’ll go.” With nothing but a trunkful of umbrella parts to her name, Jane ventures out to the Thrash estate. Then her story takes a turn, or rather, five turns. What Jane doesn’t know is that Tu Reviens will offer her choices that can ultimately determine the course of her untethered life. But at Tu Reviens, every choice comes with a reward, or a price.

My TBR will never end… and I think I should just accept that haha. I should also really stop requesting for books since I have to get through so many already. BUT I have no self control…

Have you read any of these or plan on reading them? Leave your thoughts and comments down below. Have a wonderful day!
