Hello My Lovelies! Welcome to my Blog Tour Stop for The Woman in the Green Dress by Tea Copper hosted by TLC Book Tours.

I’m not a big fan of historical romances, but I’ve read a few that I really loved. The Woman in the Green Dress is a romantic historical mystery and I found it quite enjoyable and fun.

A cursed opal, a gnarled family tree, and a sinister woman in a green dress emerge in the aftermath of World War I.

After a whirlwind romance, London teashop waitress Fleur Richards can’t wait for her new husband, Hugh, to return from the Great War. But when word of his death arrives on Armistice Day, Fleur learns he has left her a sizable family fortune. Refusing to accept the inheritance, she heads to his beloved home country of Australia in search of the relatives who deserve it more.

In spite of her reluctance, she soon finds herself the sole owner of a remote farm and a dilapidated curio shop full of long-forgotten artifacts, remarkable preserved creatures, and a mystery that began more than sixty-five years ago. With the help of Kip, a repatriated soldier dealing with the sobering aftereffects of war, Fleur finds herself unable to resist pulling on the threads of the past. What she finds is a shocking story surrounding an opal and a woman in a green dress. . . a story that, nevertheless, offers hope and healing for the future.

An Enjoyable, Thrilling, and Romantic Historical Mystery

I still have a difficult time getting hooked and falling in love with historical romance novels. I just personally don’t find them as appealing or exciting as contemporaries, paranormal, or young adult romances. That being said, I still had fun reading The Woman in the Green Dress and liked how everything came together in the end.

Cooper’s writing style is elegant, descriptive, and quite lovely. I really enjoyed the details and how I could easily picture myself in the beautiful settings in Australia. The characters are fascinating and I liked them all. Even the side characters are quite interesting. However, I found the pacing really slow in the beginning and that made it very difficult for me to be engrossed in the story. It definitely took me a while to start feeling like I was one of the characters and I didn’t like that very much. Having said that, once I got sucked into the plot and mystery, I really wanted to know what would happen next and trying to unravel the mystery was pretty exciting. I also liked the dual timelines, the different POVs, the romance, and the mystery. Overall, this book was a solid, enjoyable, and quite entertaining story.

Tea Cooper’s The Woman in the Green Dress may not have completely won my heart, but it’s still a well-written, thrilling, romantic, and engaging story. If you love historical fiction with rich descriptions and details, likeable characters, mystery, romance, and some surprises here and there, then I definitely think you’d enjoy this wonderful novel.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and publisher for participating in a blog tour hosted by TLC Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. I always say I don’t love historical romances as much, I don’t really know what it is about them though. But then I read one, love it, and wonder why I keep saying I don’t like them. I do have this one on my list because I don’t think I have any on my shelf set in Australia! Thank you for being on this tour. Sara @ TLC Book Tours
